Vodka Review: Island 808 Pineapple Vodka

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka Review – Initial Impressions:

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka is a flavored vodka of the relatively new brand Island 808 that is trying to make a name for itself for it’s high quality fruit flavor. Many Vodka Cocktails and Vodka Mixed Drinks do well with flavored liquor included in the recipes. Because of this, you want flavored vodka that will give you the most flavor.

Just like their standard Island 808 vodka, Island 808 pineapple vodka tries to really embody the Hawaiian Islands by distilling and producing their vodka from pineapples. After the distilling process, they then add pineapple again to give that refreshing taste of fresh fruit. If you’ve ever been to Hawaii, you’ll remember how clear the water was, how clean the air felt on your face, and how much fun you probably had. It’s that same feeling that Island 808 is trying to create with their pineapple vodka!

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka Review -The Shot:

My goal is to record myself take a shot of every vodka brand that I review. Why? Well, nothing describes the pain/joy of taking a shot more than looking at a persons face while he does it! So before I describe the shot, go ahead and press play to observe my immediate reaction.

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka is only 30% alcohol, so naturally it’s a little easier to shoot than regular vodkas. However, if you see from the clip, I was really surprised with how good the pineapple vodka tasted. As soon as the liquid hit my lips, I could immediately sense the strong citrus burst. The pineapple was so flavorful and didn’t harbor any bad flavors at all. There was a very minor bitter flavor on the back of my tongue, but that was gone in an instant.

I didn’t feel any burn at all and the shot left virtually no after taste at all. The only thing I could still feel was the faint taste of delicious pineapple. Flavored vodkas are usually tough for me, and I don’t find very many that I can actually say I enjoyed. This one, however, has peaked my interest and can honestly say I would enjoy taking shots of this. I highly recommend trying Island 808 Pineapple Vodka.

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka Review -The Mixed Drink:

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka

For this Island 808 Pineapple Vodka Review, I chose to make a Vodka Cran. I like to keep my Vodka Mixed Drinks and Vodka Cocktails simple when doing reviews.

After one sip of this Vodka Cocktail, I initially thought I had messed up in pouring the vodka. I usually add 1.5 ounces of alcohol to about 2-3 ounces of juice. The pineapple mixed so well with the cranberries there was only the tiniest bite at the end to let me know that there was in fact alcohol in this drink. It was really good. I could imagine this going well with just about any fruit juice you have in your fridge.

I even made a drink using only soda water and the drink was still tasty. It really tastes like I added pineapple juice to the vodka. All around this is probably one of my favorite flavored vodkas I’ve had. Pineapple juice tends to go with everything, and likewise, this vodka could go with just about any mixer.

Mixed Drink Grade: A

Island 808 Pineapple Vodka Review – Conclusion:

Island 808 Vodka is definitely an interesting new vodka brand to hit the shelves. Distilled from pineapples, it stands out as something different to try in your vodka endeavors. Vodka Cocktails and Vodka Mixed Drinks are all the same, but the vodka used to make them is what makes them unique.

I enjoyed Island 808’s original unflavored vodka and thought it was something that could be picked up on occasions. Island 808 Pineapple Vodka, however, is one that I feel everyone should try. Not everyone is a fan of pineapples. But if you find yourself in a tropical mood or have a anchoring for some real citrus flavors in your vodka, I suggest trying this. You won’t be disappointed.

Final Grade: A

Vodka Review: Exclusiv Vodca

At the time I am writing this, the winter Olympics are currently underway in Sochi, Russia. As I sit here, rooting for USA people I've never heard of to win a shiny gold medal, I mull over which vodka to fill my glass with. It was by shear chance that I came into contact with Exclusiv Vodca and got a chance to try their Eastern European spirit. Exclusiv Vodca is a product of Moldova, which is actually a fairly young country. Independent from the dissolved Soviet Union since 1991, the country has a rich history in agriculture and industry that Exclusiv Vodca is now looking to harness. While I'm sure the good people of Moldova are proud to be independent, a tip of the hat the their Russian heritage is in order when it comes to their skills in vodka production.
